Great Golden Lion Slots

The Asian-themed Great Golden Lion has two bonus features, which we love, and they lead to four jackpots. Even if you don’t hit a jackpot, we found the base game payouts to be generous. While our experience didn’t end up with us winning more than we risked, we made up a good portion of the $10 we spent playing it.

Before you get started, you should know what appears on the paytable. Like most video slots, you must have three or more matching symbols. This game has 243 ways to win, so all you need are matching symbols on adjacent reels from left to right.

  • 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen, King, and Ace – 5, 8, and 10 coins
  • Drum – 10, 15, and 30 coins
  • Symbols – 10, 20, and 50 coins
  • Chime – 12, 25, and 100 coins
  • Lantern – 25, 30, and 150 coins
  • Dragon – 20, 400, and 200 coins
  • Wild – 30, 125, or 2,000 coins

Great Golden Lion Bonus Features

You might get a Gold, Blue, Red, or Green Coin with each spin. These coins fill a corresponding pot at the top of the reels. After a spin, a full pot may randomly trigger the Jackpot Pit or Hold & Spin bonus round.

The Jackpot Pit feature occurs randomly thanks to the Red Pot. The screen changes to a 15-space grid filled with Gold Coins. Choose coins to find an Upgrade Coin or a Fu God. Once you’ve found three identical Fu Gods you win the corresponding jackpot. If you find three Upgrade Coins first, the jackpots are upgraded and will double the value of the Grand Jackpot.

The Hold & Spin feature offers three re-spins where the goal is to get more coins on the reels. If you get another, the re-spins reset to three and the game continues. If you run out of re-spins it ends. You win the value of the coins on the reels. Fill all spaces and win the largest jackpot. The size of the grid depends on what color pot triggers the feature.

  • Blue Pot – 5 x 3 grid with 6 coins held on the reels to start.
  • Green Pot – 5 x 4 grid with 8 coins held on the reels to start.
  • Blue and Green Pots – 5 x 5 grid with 10 coins held on the reels to start.
  • Blue and Red Pots – 5 x 3 grid with 6 coins held on the reels to start.
  • Green and Red Pots – 5 x 4 grid with 8 coins held on the reels to start.
  • Green, Red, and Blue Pots – 5 x 5 grid with 10 coins held on the reels to start.

The coins on the reels in this feature are Green or Gold. Gold Coins have multipliers or a jackpot, and Green Coins collect the value of all coins on the reels.

The final bonus feature is the Red Mystery Envelope. It’s a random bonus feature that may appear after a spin. It awards a multiplier to the prizes you won on that spin.

Everything Else You Should Know

We have a few more pieces of information to share, and our reviews always cover our experience while playing the game.

  • Game Developer: RTG
  • Game Type: 5-reel bonus slot with four jackpots
  • Game Theme: Asian
  • Paylines: 243
  • Betting Options: 20 cents to $50
  • Game RTP: N/A

We chose a $1 per spin wager and tested Great Golden Lion out for 10 spins. We did have several winning spins

  • 1st spin – 80 cents
  • 5th spin – 50 cents
  • 6th spin – 50 cents
  • 9th spin – 50 cents
  • 10th spin – 80 cents

It wasn’t a bad experience, but we encountered a frustrating glitch. On our fifth spin, the reels wouldn’t stop spinning. After waiting a minute, we had to refresh the screen. In the process, we lost the dollar bet. That’s the only downside we found with Great Golden Lion slots.
